Can I fit GPUs in a 1U server?
Only limited GPU options. Most 1U servers support at most 2 single-slot, low-profile GPUs. Full-height, double-width GPUs like the NVIDIA L40S or A100 PCIe require a 2U or larger chassis. If GPU acceleration is a requirement, plan for 2U minimum.
Which form factor is better for Indian colocation?
1U servers maximise the number of servers per rack unit, which can reduce colocation costs in India where pricing is often per-U. However, if your workload requires GPUs or significant storage, the 2U form factor provides necessary expansion at only twice the rack space.
How does cooling differ between 1U and 2U in Indian data centres?
1U servers have less airflow volume and use smaller, higher-RPM fans, which can be noisier and less effective in warm ambient environments. 2U servers provide better thermal headroom, which is advantageous in Indian facilities where ambient temperatures may be higher. For GPU workloads, 2U cooling is significantly more effective.
